Duplex fire causes extensive damage
Cadillac News CADILLAC - The Cadillac Fire Department responded to a house fire at 219 E. Nelson St. in Cadillac about 8:15 p.m. Saturday. Occupants of the duplex noticed smoke coming from an upstairs bedroom and called 911 from a neighbor's residence, the fire department said. When responders arrived, there were flames shooting out an upstairs window. No one was injured in the fire and it took the fire department about 20 minutes to extinguish the initial fire and another hour and a half to check for further sources. The cause of the fire is undetermined and caused extensive damage in the upstairs of the half of the home, plus smoke and water damage downstairs. The other half of the duplex had minimal damage. The fire department reported that the smoke detectors were functional and alerted the occupants. The Cadillac Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Haring Township and Cherry Grove Township fire departments.
