Doctor verifies healing ‘miracle’
CADILLAC — This is the story of a spontaneous healing, the miraculous disappearance of a brain tumor. And the woman telling this story has the faith and assurance of a saint that it was Jesus who performed this miracle in her truck while she was praying “in the spirit.” When Donna Sikes left Cadillac last year for a doctor’s appointment in Dearborn, she had an 8-mm tumor on her brain. She was going for a final MRI before scheduling surgery to remove that tumor — a risky procedure that could possibly leave her blind or paralyzed. “The surgery meant removal through my nose,” she explained. “And then they have only an inch diameter to work in and it’s a very dangerous operation.” Two neurosurgeons in Florida recommended the surgery after Sikes suffered a concussion in a car crash and subsequent MRIs revealed the tumor. When Sikes started her truck that day, she popped in a tape to keep her company on the long drive. The tape was called “Infinite Power — God’s Plan for Miracle Living” by Gordon and Pat Robertson. “It was just the tape and me and my truck,” Sikes recalled. “It was the tape but Jesus did it. I felt warmth. It was like riding in heaven all the way down there.” Sikes said she was always a Christian and believed in God. But listening to that tape and feeling the realness of God’s presence transformed and deepened that faith. “The tape said to put your hand on where your sickness is so I did and I was in the spirit all the way down there and I said — Jesus take it away, I’m all alone and I have no one to help me.” Sikes said that on that long drive the Holy Spirit told her she would be OK. “I already knew that Jesus would take it away from me,” she said. “I was never scared with this tumor.” Halfway through her MRI the technician pulled her out for the dye treatment and gave her a skeptical look. “What are we looking for?” the technician queried. Sikes told her she was looking for a pituitary brain tumor but that she wouldn’t find it. When her doctor read the results of the test, he told her “ ... there’s an empty pocket of nothing in your head.” Dr. Alicia Elmore of Family Practice of Cadillac confirmed the mysterious disappearance of Sike’s tumor and documented the case in a letter written to the 700 Club dated July 8, 2005. “We have her old MRIs here, two of them,” Elmore stated in an interview. “I can see it (the tumor) there.” The letter states: “I reviewed the films and the reports myself and have no medical explanation for this except to call it a miraculous healing.” Elmore pointed out that some tumors are treated with medications that cause shrinkage. “She said she has never taken medications and I have her medical records and there is no record of her taking any medicine.” Since the tumor disappeared, Sikes said God has completely changed her life. “It’s the same faith,” she said. “I believed in him before but now I talk to him. I didn’t know how much he loves me.” “Jesus does miracles,” she concluded. “He does not walk the earth but he does to miracles. My purpose is to spread the word.” Producers of CBN’s 700 Club will be in Cadillac the last week of March to tape interviews and create reenactments of events in Sike’s life leading up to her healing. news@cadillacnews.com | 775-NEWS (6397)
