Parsons wins first CAJGA event
Cadillac News CADILLAC - Mother Nature couldn't have given them better conditions. Mild temperatures, little wind and sunny skies were the order of the day as the Cadillac Area Junior Golf Association (CAJGA) opened its summer season at McGuire's Resort. Kyle Parsons took advantage of it all to shoot a 75 (36-39) to win the event, while Phil Gorman shot a 78 to take second. “The kids took advantage of the excellent conditions at McGuire's Resort,” CAJGA co-director Jack Foster said. “Kyle played 17 holes 1-over and Phil played 16 holes 2-over. Those are excellent scores for the first event of the season.” Kris Swaffer took third with an 87, while Jordan Cater was fourth at 91, Eric Hoblet fifth at 93 and Scott Coy sixth with a 94. The opening-tournament victory gives Parsons a leg up in the points' standings. Parsons leads the way with 1,000 points, while Gorman has 850, Swaffer 800, Cater 750, Hoblet 700, Coy 650, Kyle Rider 600 and Chris Bevans 550. The next CAJGA event is next Monday at Wedgewood Golf Course in Cadillac. Any local student, entering junior high through their senior year of high school are eligible to compete on the tour. A membership fee of $60 is required when signing up plus $10 per tournament. For more information, contact Foster at 775-5893 or at frosst@mac.com.
