Local youth to compete in world show
CADILLAC - Megan Meyer is packing her bags, and her horse, to spend a week in Fort Worth, Texas competing with youth from all over the world at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show. After qualifying for the honor by accumulating points and winning shows in Michigan, Megan will show her horse, Oprah's Shadow, to the judges in hopes of winning a world championship trophy. Megan explained that for her event she will show Oprah's Shadow to the judges and be graded on the horse's confirmation, how well the horse is built and its fitness level. “I will groom her and get her ready,” Megan explained. “We grease her face and put the show halter on her. I have to be dressed in a blazer with matching pants, boots and a hat. “Then we'll be in the arena. You walk up to the judges. Then we trot by so they can see the horse's profile. They are judging you and your horse.” In order to qualify at this level, Megan explained that you need a top quality horse and the proper equipment. “You have to work everyday with your horse to keep your horse fit,” she said. “They are really high maintenance. I'm very excited to be going. I've never been before. “I'll be competing with everybody from all around the world.” Megan is a sophomore at Baker College. “This is going to be a good experience just to go down there. I want to thank my parents, my sisters and my brother, and my horse trainers Jim Evans and Christie Showerman.” news@cadillacnews.com | 775-NEWS (6397)
