Free cappuccino night offered for young adults

Kathy Green

CADILLAC - One local church is concerned that college-aged kids have no place to go for encouragement, to discuss their faith or to just hang out.

Harvest Worship Center Church wants to change that by offering students ages 17 to 27 a free cappuccino night Saturday at 7 p.m.

“It seems like after the kids graduate from high school, nobody offers them anything,” expressed Kathy Green, whose husband Mike pastors the new church.

“We thought we'd have Stephanie give them some positive encouragement.”

Green's daughter Stephanie, a 2002 graduate of Pine River High School, was recently named to the 2006 ESPN Magazine Academic All American Women's Track/Cross Country Team.

A 2006 graduate of Olivet College, Stephanie graduated Summa Cum Laude with a major in business administration and was a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society. She won several awards in sports for softball and cross-country.

Now employed by the VanAndel Institute in Grand Rapids as a cost accountant, she will host the cappuccino night.

“I'm probably going to talk a little bit about everything,” Stephanie said in a phone interview from Grand Rapids. “I'll talk about what's it like to be leaving home and then the academics and sports. I hope to encourage other college students.”

“This is not going to be real formal,” explained her mother. “We thought Stephanie would discuss her faith, her beliefs and help the students feel at ease. This opens the church up to college-age students who want to come in.”
