New fitness club open 24 hours a day

Cadillac — Can’t find time to work out?

A new fitness club called Anytime Fitness hopes to solve that problem by staying open 24-hours a day.

“With all of our busy lives, we thought this would fill a niche,” explained Kim Lee, who purchased the franchise with her husband Jim. “This works great when the babies go to sleep, you can run out and work out.”

Anytime Fitness is the world’s first 24-hour fitness and tanning franchise. It opened in Cadillac in mid-April with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for Thursday.

“So far, we have walk-ins and word-of-mouth customers,” Lee continued. “We had someone come in that works until 2:30 a.m. and said this is perfect.”

A security-access card will be used to get into the club after hours when the doors are locked. “We have eight security cameras,” Lee explained. “With a computer chip in your key, only you can get in.”

The club, located on Plett Road two blocks south of Wal-Mart, is designed for quick and effective exercise. The equipment options include circuit and cross-training machines, free weights, stationary bicycles and treadmills. Private showers and dressing areas are also available, with optional tanning facilities.

“Anytime Fitness clubs are pared down to the essentials necessary for a great workout,” said Rebecca Krouskop, club manager. “We are excited to be in Cadillac and it is our goal to become an active member of the community.

Lee said that membership in the club costs about a dollar a day. To celebrate it opening, Anytime Fitness, named one of the hottest new franchises of 2006 by Entrepreneur Magazine, is offering discounts for the first 200 members. There is the added benefit of membership reciprocity among clubs worldwide.
