Family 5K race funds program
CADILLAC — Whether it be to achieve a goal, exercise or to support a friend, hundreds of runners, walkers and inline skaters are expected to participate in the ninth annual Stride for Strive 5K race Monday. It is estimated there will be more than 300 Strive runners joined by 500 Girls on the Run participants who will race on foot or skates from the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center along Lake Cadillac to the finish line at the Cadillac Rotary Pavilion. Money raised from the race will go toward the Cadillac Rotary’s Strive fund. “With Strive, the Rotary Club works with students to improve their school performance during their senior year,” said Rotarian and Strive committee chair Dave Hoag. “Those students who demonstrate the most improvement are awarded scholarships.” To be part of the program, students are usually identified by the school and are encouraged to improve their attendance, attitude, grade-point average and participation. They also must attend a one-hour monthly meeting. Besides Strive runners, Girls on the Run participants are a large part of the race. This year Cathy Booher expects 502 girls in the race with 83 coaches involved. Registration must be done before the race starts at noon. The cost is $15 and the first 150 registers receive a free T-shirt. Your local connection Stride for Strive tberkebile@cadillacnews.com | 775-NEWS (6397)
