Lakers swept; Cater wins again Cadillac News CADILLAC — The rust showed. The Cadillac Lakers American Legion Post 94 baseball team, playing its first games in two weeks, took a pair on the chin from Mount Pleasant Thursday at Mills Field. Mount Pleasant won the opener 12-0 and the second game, 11-3. “Mother Nature worked against us,” Cadillac manager Dave Champion said. “Three of our last four dates have been rained out and the rust showed. We just gave them too many outs.” Ben Turbiak took the loss in game one. Dylan Jehnzen, Brandon Champion, Cody Wagatha and Mark Fortelka each had a hit. Matt Forsgren took the loss in the second game. He did help his cause at the plate with two hits, while Derek Kearns drove in a run. Champion, Fortelka, Levi Spencer and Jehnzen each had a hit. Cadillac (9-9 overall) takes on defending state champion Midland Berryhill at Northwood University Sunday afternoon. GOLF Cater wins CAJGA event THOMPSONVILLE — Jordan Cater was even on more than half his holes and it worked. Cater was medalist for the third straight Cadillac Junior Golf Association event, this one at Crystal Mountain Resort Thursday. “It was another fine day at the course and the staff was wonderful to the kids,” CAJGA co-director Jack Foster said. Cater shot 40 on the front and 40 the back for the winning 80, while Carter Marsh was second at 82, Kyle Ryder third at 83 and Eric Hoblet fourth at 89. Andy Cleary, Micky Malmborg and Josh Platko tied for fifth with 93s, while Kody Elzinga shot 94, Josh Janowiak 103, Joe Frederick 109 and CJ Malmborg 110. Cater now leads the overall points standings with 4,883 points. Ryder is second at 3,850. In the Division II tournament, Ben Chipman was medalist with a 94, Conner Jennings shot a 95, Alex Rutherford 97, Brad Dahlquist 100 and Ben Mackey 115. The next CAJGA event is Monday at the Manistee Golf and Country Club.
