Steve Green has had 13 No. 1 songs and seven Dove Awards as a Christian recording artist. He will perform in concert at the Rehoboth Reformed Church in Lucas on Sunday, Oct. 28.

LUCAS — Why would a top, major recording artist with 13 No. 1 songs perform a concert in Lucas, Michigan?

Because they asked.

“Someone here called his manager and asked if he’d consider coming,” explained Sharon VanderHeide, a member of the Rehoboth Reformed Church in Lucas. “They checked to see if the date was open and he agreed to come.”

So, squeezed in between concert tour dates in Orlando, Florida and Nashville, Tennessee, Steve Green will appear in Lucas on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m.

Green is a well-known Christian recording artist with seven Dove Awards and more than a million albums sold worldwide.

He has also received several Grammy nominations. Billboard Magazine placed Green on their Top Ten Contemporary Christian Artists list.

His ministry, according to his biography, is to communicate a spiritual awakening through music and cause people to turn their hearts back to the Lord.

“He’s been in this area before,” explained VanderHeide. “So he’s familiar with our area. And another reason we invited him is that we now have all this room.”

VanderHeide said the new church expansion and remodeling project gives them seating for 650 to 700 people in the 11,000 square feet of space.

Church doors will open at 5:15 p.m. for the 6 p.m. concert. At 4 p.m. there will be a Potato Bar Dinner including salad and dessert. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children from ages 3 to 10.

Tickets are available at the Gospel Book Store. Call 775-7943 for more information.
