Dive team searching for teenager who fell through ice on Muskegon River near Evart

The Michigan State Police Dive Team was called to the scene to search for the boy but as of press time, they still hadn't found him.

EVART — A teenager is still missing after police say he fell through the ice over the Muskegon River Thursday near Evart.

Osceola County Sheriff Justin Halladay said the boy was walking on the ice next to the bridge at 50th Avenue in Sylvan Township around 5 p.m. with two of his friends when they all fell through.

Two of the boys were able to reach safety while the other was carried by the swift current underneath the ice, Halladay said.

The Michigan State Police Dive Team was called to the scene to search for the boy but as of press time, they still hadn't found him.

Halladay said even under the best conditions, search and rescue missions can be challenging.

He said they will continue looking as long as they possibly can.

In addition to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office and MSP, Evart Police, Evart Fire and Rescue, Big Rapids Rescue and Osceola County EMS assisted in the search.
