Wexford County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim in a drowning incident that occurred on July 16, 2019

MANTON — The drowning victim in an incident on the Manistee River on Tuesday has been identified.

Wexford County Sheriff’s Office reported that Cadillac woman Anna Harper, 32, drowned after her tube became lodged in a downed tree on the river.

The incident happened near Chase Creek in Liberty Township and the first call was reported around 1:12 p.m., according to a press release.

Police said the victim became entangled in a rope connecting two tubes, was not able to free herself and the current pulled her body under the water.

First responders located the victim around 2 p.m. and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s body was removed from the river with help from a Wexford County Sheriff’s Office riverboat, police said.

First responders from Cedar Creek Township Fire Department, Manton Fire Department, Northflight EMS and Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers all responded to the scene, police said.
