CADILLAC — A 43-year-old Cadillac man is facing multiple driving offenses including drunken driving after he was arraigned Monday in 84th District Court.

Jacob Allen Sowers was charged with one count each of operating while intoxicated third offense and operating while license suspended, revoked or denied second or subsequent offense for his connection with an incident on June 8 in Clam Lake Township. A habitual offender fourth offense notice was added to the charge which carries a maximum penalty of up to life in prison if the primary offense is punishable by up to five years in prison or 15 years in prison if the primary offense is punishable by under five years in prison.

If convicted, Sowers faces up to life in prison.

The charges are merely accusations and not evidence of guilt. Sowers is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The prosecution has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Sowers was released on a personal recognizance bond and a probable cause conference was scheduled for 10 a.m. on June 18.
