CADILLAC - After sorting through dozens of service project proposals, the Cadillac Leadership class of 2018/2019 made a unanimous selection, the Cadillac Footliters.

The Cadillac Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership class named their new service project: Leadership in the Spotlight!" Their goal is to raise $30,000 to purchase portable, modular stage platforms, sound and music equipment, backstage intercom equipment, and a trailer to haul equipment and sets.

"We had a number of good proposals but as a class, it was unanimous," said Kevin Baker, co-chair. "We were hoping to select something to impact our youth. And the amount of kids that have been in the Junior Footliers over the last couple of years, there's been a huge growth. They train kids in production and all aspects of being in the play. . . they do an amazing job."

"This class knew right away what they wanted to do and who they wanted to support," said Deb Gillies, class director.

"We are so excited that they picked the Footliters for their service project," said Joseph Baumann, Footliters president. "This helps with the next step in our evolution. This is a bridge to the future and reaffirms our vision of having a home of our own."

Baumann said that acquiring modular stage platforms, new equipment, and a trailer will help them fulfill their vision "to engage with the community in more places with more people." It will also help them do their shows "more efficiently."

The Footliters have been serving the Cadillac community since 1964. An estimated 150 participants of every age perform and crew six productions a year and sponsor various youth summer camps.

"It is because of their dedication to performing arts education that we chose the Footliters," Baker added.

For more than 25 years, the leadership program of the Cadillac Area Chamber of Commerce has been contributing to the community by funding projects like the splash pad and ice rink in Heritage Plaza; the EZ Launch Docking System on Lake Cadillac at the Mitchell State Park, the play structure on the Keith McKellop Walkway, and the renovation of the Daybreak Adult Day Care facility, to name a few.
