SEARS — A 6-year-old received fatal injuries after being hit by a pickup truck on M-66.

At approximately 10:02 a.m., Osceola County Deputies responded to a call that a boy from Evart was hit by a vehicle on M-66 near 7 Mile Road in Sylvan Township, according to an Osceola County Sheriff Department press release.

The 6-year-old, accompanied by another boy, were standing on the shoulder of the road when the 6-year-old darted out as the pickup hauling logs was heading southbound.

When the boy suddenly ran out into the road, the driver attempted to swerve out of the way of the child, but was unable.

The driver and the other boy did not suffer any injuries.

Though still under investigation, alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in this incident, according to the press release.

Evart Police Department, the Michigan State Police and their accident reconstruction Unit and the Motor Carrier Division personnel assisted at the scene along with Osceola County EMS, Evart Fire Rescue and Garfield Township Fire Rescue.
