David James Cooper

CADILLAC — David James Cooper, age 72, of Cadillac, formerly of Durand and Bancroft area, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 in Cadillac, Michigan.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Life in Christ Christian Church, 1833 W. M-21, Owosso, Michigan 48867, Lead Pastor Eric Numerich will officiate. A Graveside Service immediately following at Ridge Road Cemetery, 18645 Brennan Road, Oakley, Michigan 48649. The family extends an invitation to attend a fellowship dinner immediately following the graveside service at the church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 520 West Main St., Owosso, Michigan 48867.

David was born June 19, 1947 in Owosso, Michigan, the son of James Cleveland and Iola Maxine (Elsworth) Cooper. He attended and graduated from Durand High School. He married Constance Smith on December 31, 1968 who passed into eternal rest on November 27, 2012. Together they raised two wonderful boys, Troy and Todd, in the Shiawassee County area.

He worked as a machinist for Hogan Manufacturing before retiring to Cadillac, Michigan. David loved being outdoors; camping and fishing but most of all snowmobiling. He was a member of the Flushing Frozen Forty Snowmobiling Club as well as the Cadillac Winter Warriors. He also enjoyed playing euchre with his friends as well as playing Santa Claus each year for the Cadillac Winter Warriors.

David is survived by his sons, Troy David (Alexis Elaine) Cooper and Todd David (Jennifer Michelle) Cooper; his grandchildren, Melinda Maryanne Cooper, Gregory Scott Cooper, Shelbey Lynne (Lance) Johnsen, Courtney Marie (Brandon Bush) Cooper, and Isabelle Grace Cooper; his great-grandchildren, Brayden Matthew Force, Kyler David Force, Callen Gregory Force and Hunter Lee Johnsen; his siblings, Michael Cooper, Josephine, Patrick (Diane) Cooper, Penny Libbey, and April Cooper; his brother-in-law, Michael Ashford; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

David was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Connie; his parents, James and Iola Cooper; and his sister, Lana Ashford.
