MESICK — Jason Dwayne Barnes passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 17, 2019 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was 37.
Jason was born September 4, 1981 in Traverse City to Dwayne and Nancy (Costello) Barnes. He attended Mesick Consolidated Schools.
Jason loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and riding dirt bikes and snowmobiles. He also enjoyed working with his Dad building wooden canoes and kayaks. Underneath the outdoorsman exterior Jason was a caring man with a gentle soul. He enjoyed playing guitar and brought it with him many places. Jason had a hard work ethic and always gave his all. He had a great love for his family and was always willing to help others. Jason continued to do so even after his passing through Gift of Life organ donations.
Jason is survived by his wife, Crystal Barlett of Mesick; daughters, Hannah Barnes and Kaitlyn Barnes; parents, Dwayne and Nancy Barnes of Copemish; sister, Jamie Leigh Barnes of Cadillac; nephew, Chance; grandma, Ruth Barnes of Mesick; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Norma Costello, and grandfather, Lloyd Barnes.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Cherry Grove Church of the Nazarene with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Antioch Township Cemetery in Wexford County. Friends may meet the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac.
