Cadillac claims another volleyball district title

Members of the Cadillac volleyball team pose with their trophy after sweeping Ludington in a Division 2 district final Friday at Benzie Central High School.

BENZONIA — Add another trophy to the case.

Cadillac claimed its 13th straight district crown, beating Ludington 25-20, 25-15, 25-20 in an MHSAA Division 2 volleyball district title match Friday night at Benzie Central High School.

The win sends the Vikings (32-17-1 overall) into a geographic regional semifinal against Gladwin or Ogemaw Heights on Tuesday at home.

Kingsley and Kingsford meet in the northern half of the regional with the championship match scheduled for Thursday in Gaylord.

Veteran Cadillac coach Michelle Brines was pleased her team was able to reach another of its main goals and that it had to work for it the last two nights against Big Rapids and Ludington.

"I am very proud of the team for winning the district," she said. "It's never an easy task, especially playing three out of four nights.

"Ludington played tough and kept us on our toes. When the match was tight, though, we did a good job of maintaining our composure and getting the side out and points. We're happy to be playing into the second week of the playoffs with the opportunity to play at home."

Sophomore Macy Brown paced Cadillac with 13 kills, 12 digs, four assists and an ace while Brooke Kochanny had seven kills, four aces and three digs. Renee Brines dished out 20 assists, four kills, four digs and an ace while Maggie Neiss had four blocks, three kills and two aces.

Chloe Comstock had 10 digs and three kills while Anesa Liptak had four kills and a block. Makenna Bryant and Brooke Lorenz added eight digs apiece.
