BALDWIN — Mesick ran its record to 13-5 overall and 8-0 in the West Michigan D Conference with a pair of softball wins over Baldwin, 24-0 and 16-0, on Thursday.

Kailie Fitt pitched a pair of no-hitters with five strikeouts in each game.

In the opener, Fitt helped her own cause with two hits and four RBIs while McKenzie Kendall added two hits. Alyssa Duquette also had a three-run homer.

Fitt had two hits in the second game while Mattie Akom and Kendall had three RBIs apiece.

Mesick hosts Pine River today.


Stags sweep Trojans

KINGSLEY — Lake City dropped a pair to Kingsley, 10-0 and 14-4, in non-league action.

Morgan Rogers took the loss in the opener, while Brooke Silvers and Emma Barron paced Lake City at the plate with singles.

Mackenzie Hamilton took the loss in game two. Silvers had two hits and an RBI while Ashley Balcer added two hits. Barron singled and Gabrielle Maddox collected an RBI double.

Lake City is at Cadillac today.



Mesick sweeps Baldwin

BALDWIN — Mesick picked up a pair of West Michigan D victories, beating Baldwin 16-2 and 18-3.

Robert Spoor got the win in the opener, allowing two earned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out five in two innings of work.

At the plate, Tanner Ford had three hits and an RBI; Spoor an RBI; Dalton Sabo two hits; Gabe Parrish two hits; Kyle Clough four hits and four RBIs; Connor Simmer two hits and two RBIs; and Ella Harp a hit and an RBI.

Jakob Abraham picked up the win in game two, allowing one earned run on one hit and two walks while striking out three in 2.2 innings of work.

At the plate, Ford had two hits and two RBIs; Spoor a hit and an RBI; Sabo two hits and five RBIs; Parrish a hit and an RBI; Clough two hits and an RBI; Jewett a hit and an RBI; Clayton Stimmer two hits; and Abraham three hits and three RBIs.

Mesick hosts Pine River today.


Kingsley sweeps LC

KINGSLEY — Lake City dropped a pair of non-league games to Kingsley, 11-5 and 11-1.

"We play good defense at times and hit the ball at times but have innings where we struggle and that's how we lose games," Lake City coach Todd Vasicek said. "We need to play a complete game from the first through the sixth inning."

Dawson Corrigan took the loss in the opener, allowing five runs on four hits while striking out one in two innings of work.

Andrew VanderTuig doubled while Michael Grieb, Corrigan and Taylor Butkovich had a hit apiece.

Grieb took the loss in game two, allowing 11 runs on seven hits while striking out three.

Kyle Scarbrough, Butkovich and Jacob Rosekrans had a hit apiece.

Lake City is at Cadillac today.



NMC third at tri

CADILLAC — Northern Michigan Christian took third in a three-team golf match at Lakewood on the Green.

Sanford Meridian took first with a 183 while Gladwin shot 214 and the Comets 215.

"It rained once again but we played pretty well," NMC coach Dave Skinner said. "Losing to Gladwin by one stroke was a bit difficult to swallow but seeing improvement in a couple of players keeps me positive."

Grant Pogue paced NMC with a 41 while Silas Bowden and Ben Gaffke each shot a 56. Logan Roper had a 62.

NMC is at Roscommon with Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart on Monday.


McBain third at tri

HOUGHTON LAKE — McBain took third in a three-team match at The Quest Golf Course.

Roscommon took first with a 179 while Clare shot a 203 and the Ramblers 204.

"It is really tough losing by one stroke to Clare," McBain coach Gary Vana said. "Each kid is wrestling with one stroke that got away and if it hadn't, how the match would have been different."

Kaleb Keathley paced McBain with a 46 while Chase Pylkas shot a 49, Drew Vana 54 and Jacob Meekhof a 55.

McBain is at Sanford Meridian with Houghton Lake on Monday.
