EVART — Four days without school and very little practice were evident.

Northern Michigan Christian found its legs first, though, and beat Evart 48-22 in a Highland Conference girls basketball contest Thursday night.

The Comets were up just 6-4 after the first quarter before outscoring the Wildcats 17-8 in the second to take a 23-12 lead into halftime.

It was 33-18 after three quarters.

"After four days off of school, we got off to a slow start," NMC coach Jason Towers said. "In the second quarter, we cranked up the defense which fed the offense and got some energy going."

Ally Sigafoose paced NMC with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Kari VanPolen added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Ally Krick and Madelyn Benthem added eight points apiece, as well. Benthem also grabbed six rebounds.

NMC hosts Lake City today.
